Through their education, students explore how societies work, what the underlying values are in their social worlds and how to understand certain aspects of their societies. Social inquiry helps students examine social issues, ideas, themes or various phenomena. It is a process of knowledge- seeking and exploration of various social phenomena. Inquiry-based learning is a process that usually involves the following steps (e.g., Spronken-Smith & Walker, 2010):

  1. identifying research questions
  2. gathering and examining information
  3. synthesizing information and exploring the studies phenomena
  4. developing reflective and critical understandings (see Image 1).

This module provides resources and information to promote inquiry-based learning.
