Exercise 2: Research question and research design for social inquiry

Directions to teachers: students use the questionnaire below to fill out during class. First, students must think of a topic they are genuinely interested in. Students are encouraged to choose general topics, especially ones that might have multiple perspectives.

Exercise 3: Conducting research for social inquiry

By looking at photographs, we can learn a great deal about the norms and ways of life in the past. Students should look into their own family archives and consider at least 3 photos from the last 50 years, or more, if older photos exist. If students don’t have family photos, they can look at photos from historical archives (some of which have digitalized photos available online). Students must examine all details of these photos and try to answer the questions below.
